Authentic Jamaican Steamed Cabbage Recipe Using Woolery Forbes Jamaican All Purpose Spice 

Jamaican steamed cabbage is a culinary gem that seamlessly fits into any meal, whether it is breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Ingredients for Steamed Cabbage:

  • 1 medium green cabbage, shredded
  • 1 medium carrot, julienned
  • 1 sweet pepper/bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 1 sprig of fresh thyme
  • 2 medium sized tomato, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil
  • 1 tbsp Woolery Forbes All Purpose Spice
  • 1 Scotch bonnet pepper, finely chopped (optional for heat)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

Prepare the Vegetables:

  • Shred the cabbage.
  • Julienne the carrot.
  • Thinly slice the bell pepper, tomato  and onion.
  • Mince the garlic and grate the ginger.

Heat the Oil:

  • In a large saucepan, heat the coconut oil over medium heat.

Sauté:  Add the onion, garlic, tomato, scotch bonnet pepper and sweet pepper to the saucepan. Sauté for about 1 minute or until it becomes translucent.

Cook the Vegetables:

  • Add fresh seasoning, shredded cabbage, carrot, and sprig of thyme to the saucepan. Stir well to combine.
  • Add Woolery Forbes All Purpose Spice and scotch bonnet pepper (if using).
  • Stir to mix the spices evenly with the vegetables.
  • Cover the saucepan and let the vegetables steam for approximately 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Test with a fork for your desired texture.

Season and Finish:

  • Adjust seasoning to taste by lightly adding salt. Stir well to combine.
  • Remove from heat once the cabbage is tender but still slightly crisp.

Serving Suggestion:

Serve this flavorful steamed cabbage as a side dish with your favourite starch and or protein, such as boiled food, stew chicken, grilled fish, or tofu. It also pairs well with rice or quinoa for a complete meal.
